The first bilingual school in Fuerteventura is soon to be constructed after planning permission was granted. The school will be located in the Tuineje municipality, a short distance from Gran Tarajal. This will bring to fruition what is the latest project of the Colegio Arenas group, who already operate bilingual schools in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
The ambitions plans include the construction of classrooms, a swimming pool, athletics track, basketball court, football pitch, pavilion, library, as well as an onsite dormitory for students.
All this will be sited on a 300,000 square metre plot of land almost equidistance from Corralejo – 60 kilometres, and 55 kilometres from Morro Jable.
It’s location is also along the planned north to south motorway, which once completed, will ensure traveling times to the school are dramatically reduced.
Schools offer a dual programme of studies in both English and Spanish and have pioneered since the 1970s in incorporating modern languages from the Early Years. Students leave with an excellent working knowledge of English and academic groundings fully compliant with the official spanish curriculum.
The English Department is made up of native teachers and qualified bilingual teachers and has developed its own methodology adapted to age and academic ability.
The Mayor of Tuineje was delighted to announce the plans had been passed all licences issued, believing it to be a proud moment in the county’s history, “It will be the first bilingual school in Fuerteventura and we are very proud of this.” Whilist it is still probably several years away from actually opening, plans have definitely moved a step closer to reality, which will be welcome news to many parents across the island.
