Learning about our planet’s fauna

A visit to a zoo or an aquarium is a fun way to show the young the magic of the planet we live on. Besides, on many occasions it’s the only chance to see species that live in other parts of the world and which children are always curious about.

In the Canary Islands there are zoos and aquariums of all kinds. At most of them, besides seeing animals from a distance (crocodiles, monkeys, parrots or even a Komodo dragon), you can also watch entertaining shows in which killer whales dance to the rhythm of the music or birds solve puzzles. Some even give you the chance to take part in activities like swimming with sharks or dolphins, playing with sea lions or riding a pony.

Twenty-first century zoos do more than merely provide the public with leisure activities and entertainment. They have become essential agents dedicated to promoting awareness among citizens.
